Mary Lloyd - County Councillor - Wellington County - Ward 5
Working to improve social, cultural & economic well-being of my community that is looking
forward with vision; mindful of our history, rich environmental assets, and my constituents.
Beginning my political career in 2010, I felt it necessary to set a guiding principle to keep me focused
on the WHY of running for an elected position. Seeing many areas in my community that could use
improvements and learning that the budgets were stretched tight it was time for action.
Serving two terms as a township councillor, I supported an asset management plan that prioritized
capital projects to address the vital needs of roads, water and wastewater. Recreation areas were
needing serious improvements including the Fergus Grand Theatre and I supported those too. We
were effective in completing several bridges, paving several roads, expanding the wastewater plant in
Elora and adding new parks and upgrades to the theatre superstructure.
After being selected to serve a vacancy at the County council, I was acclaimed as a councillor for the
2018-22 term. During this time I was appointed as member of the Warden’s advisory committee
and chair of both Information, Heritage and Seniors committee and the Accessibility Committee.
As chair of I,H and S, there have been many successes – Libraries have ended late fees and started
the improved branch in Erin in heritage gristmill; the Museum has grown in program offerings and
starting the building of an Indigenous Healing Garden and children’s play area was started; Long-
Term Care has offered an exceptional services with highly trained staff for end of life care and the
plan development for Seniors Continuum of Care village at Wellington Place.
The WHY for the next term? Once elected I will work toward beginning the building of the
Continuum of Care and low-cost housing project for Erin. I will support mental health strategies
for the county where possible, climate change projects, responsible road and work garage projects
and keep an informed view of the budget – keeping it responsible for our close to 100,000 residents.
